Spring COTM!!

Postby Jim85IROC » Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:18 am

I'm resurrecting this idea, though I think I'm going to do things a bit differently. Once a month has proven to be too often for a "COTM" contest, so we'll try the seasonal approach.

Spring is here, and people should be getting their cars out of hibernation. Our next COTM contest will be a spring theme. Once your grass starts to grow and flowers begin to bloom, get pictures of your car that put it in a good springtime setting. Go back and re-read the other posts to get a good idea of how to take a good picture. Consider your surroundings when doing your pictures. New grass, flowers, buds on trees and a million other "springtime" things can be used in the picture to give a nice theme.

For camera angles, for this contest we're going to be looking for shots from above. You don't need to be directly over the car, but we want angles that are high enough up that you can see the ground all around the car. Get creative with standing on a ladder or from a high vantage point. Keep in mind that the direction of the light will make or break this type of a shot (or almost any type of shot to be honest), so experiment with sunrise & sunset shots, and also with reflectors to brighten up those dark spots.

I'm going to make a due date of May 31. That gives everybody almost 2 months to find the right spot and for the vegetation to grow.

As with past COTM contests, I want these to be new pictures of your cars, and I want them to fit the theme. No matter how nice of a picture you take, if it doesn't fit the contest theme, don't post it here!

Cliff's notes:

Spring theme, pic from above!

So start taking pics and post them here!

One suggestion that I'd make when you take the new pics, is make sure that you aim the car so that the sun is to the photographer's back when you take the pictures. An alternate solution would be to have a buddy hold up some big reflectors (aluminum foil over cardboard works well) in order to get some light onto the car. Those pics look nice, but if you can brighten up those dark spots, it'll really make the car pop.
