I haven't been on in a long time here because I no longer have my 3ed gen, but I was helping a friend install a stereo in his 84 Camaro and we are having trouble with the memory wire, I know it has to be spliced into one of the power sources but I forgot witch one. Right now I have it in the main Red wire but it's not working, so would any of you know how to get this to work. My friend is sick of having to reset his settings every time he turns his car back on.
Thanks.

your memory needs to be hooked up to the constant, yellow wire.

Which won't be there if his car didn't come with a "digital" radio originally. If that's the case, you need to find an alternate power source by getting out your multimeter or test light and checking all the fuses in your fuse box to find one that's got constant power. Or, you could just run a fused line directly from the battery, which is what i did for my IROC, which also didn't have a factory battery wire due to the fact that it came with an analog AM radio.

First off, the yellow wire is ignition power (when on) the orange is 20A constant power (on post 88cars) below is the stock schematics

It's been a long time since I've been behind a radio in any pre-88 cars, but my recollection is that the 2 prong connector had a yellow and brown wire, not orange and brown.
But regardless, that non-brown wire in the 2 prong connector, whatever color it is, is your guy. The thing is, if the car didn't come with a digital radio originally, that connector & wires won't be there.

i just reinstalled mine in my 84 last week, mine was orange for constant power, if your car doesnt come with it, i would splice (correctly with solder and shrink wrap) into the cigarette lighter wiring. but than i dont use my lighter for anything.
